Art Classes at PHS

These are the classes that are currently running  at Perry High School. Each class is a semester long and is 0.5 credits.

INTRO TO ART

This is an introductory art course where students explore a variety of hands on projects based on the elements and principles of design.

 

These projects may include drawing, painting, and other two-dimensional or three-dimensional projects. Interspersed throughout the class will be discussions on art history and creative problem solving.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

This course teaches communication through a two-dimensional visual image. Students are required to solve numerous visual communication problems using a digital camera, digital software, lighting equipment and printers.

 

Examples and aesthetic discussion will be interspersed with production and evaluation. Digital Photography is the introductory class to the world of digital images.

Ceramics

This is an introductory clay class designed to build basic skills in hand construction, sculpting and throwing on the potter’s wheel with an emphasis on craftsmanship.

 

Students will experience the creative process from the conception of the idea through its construction. Students will demonstrate a utilization of fundamental design skills in clay.

 
 
 
Drawing and Painting

This course will form an introduction to drawing and painting and present a thorough guide for the beginner through the use of line, texture, value color shape and space. Media in drawing includes use of pencil, pen and ink, pastels and charcoal. Painting focuses on composition in oil, pastels, watercolor, acrylic and tempera. Students will interpret through observation, various landscapes and still life subjects. Aesthetics in art history will be introduced including critiques of professional and student work.

Graphic Design

This course is designed to examine commercial art and the way that the arts touch people’s everyday lives. From advertisements, to posters, to logos, to typeface, students in this class explore, design, and create multiple, vibrant commercial graphics. This class is especially recommended for students who are looking to choose art as a career, as graphic design is one of the most marketable art careers of the 21st century.
